8:30 a.m.–10:15 a.m.	General session: Join us for an enlightening introduction by The HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle, followed by talks from renowned cartoonists Berkeley Breathed and Patrick McDonnell. Berkeley Breathed, best known for his Bloom County comic strip, will walk us through a slide show reading of his stimulating and humorous book Flawed Dogs, which promotes the adoption of pets from shelters. Patrick McDonnell, creator of the award-winning comic strip Mutts®, will take us into the lives of Earl, Mooch, and the other Mutts cast members. Many of the Mutts strips center on the “Shelter Stories” theme, raising awareness of the role of animal sheltering organizations and encouraging pet adoption. His upcoming book Mutts Shelter Stories: Love. Guaranteed, which will debut at Expo, is a compilation of 10 years of “Shelter Stories” strips, along with real life vignettes of animals adopted from shelters and rescue groups.
