SPCA Tampa Bay
SPCA Tampa Bay, an open managed admissions shelter, is expanding their Behavior Department! We are currently seeking a Part-Time Behavior Technician to add to our team. Behavior Department members work collaboratively with one another in creating, implementing and supporting shelter-approved programs. The Behavior Technician will perform canine behavioral assessments to determine the suitability of adoption versus rehabilitation. We also develop enrichment protocols and modification programs to support the mental health and well being of the animals in our care. While the majority of the Behavior Technician responsibilities surround working with dogs, a willingness to learn about and develop basic skills surrounding working with cats, rabbits and small animals is required. We currently use the ASPCA Meet Your Match program for our cats and the Behavior Technician will be responsible for overseeing this program and implementing stress management programs as needed. The successful candidate will be certified as a dog trainer through CCPDT, Penn Foster, Animal Behavior College or a similar program. Strong emphasis is placed on Positive Reinforcement Training, Operant and Classical Conditioning techniques, Developmental Periods, and Ethology. Candidates should also have a minimum of two years training a variety of different breeds of dogs in a group obedience class setting or through private behavioral consultations. Prior experience administering behavioral evaluations is helpful.
