JOB SUMMARY: The position of Customer and Animal Relations exists to provide PHS with an individual whose responsibilities include intake and adoption counselor through consistently excellent customer service and care. Working in collaboration with members of the animal care and adoption staff, the Customer and Animal Relations Position will educate the public on options for surrendering animals, provide guidance necessary to ensure proper adopter/adoptee matches, to actively research and seek out owners whose animals have arrived at the shelter and to assist in the implementation of adoption promotion initiatives. The Customer and Animal Relations position will set the tone in our lobby and be responsible for ensuring positive experiences and interactions for PHS visitors. SUPERVISOR: Intake and Adoptions Manager QUALIFICATIONS: * Must have a fundamental commitment to the welfare of companion animals * Must have experience in customer service relations, have positive professional approach to situations, ability to multi-task, follow instruction and direction well and be able to handle high-stress environments * Must be detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite * Must have experience working with animals and/or working/volunteering in an animal shelter environment HOURS: Part Time Hours (less than 30) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Perform day-to-day lobby operations (including greeting visitors, accepting donations, answering phones and conducting adoptions/surrenders/return to owners) * Update files pertaining to animals at the shelter * Conduct adoptions, intakes and return to owners as needed * Assist in the process of making animals available for adoption through review of medical file, completion of temperament test/medical write-ups, and updating of status in ShelterBuddy database * Manage lobby spaces to ensure cleanliness, order, and safety for both animals and visitors * Answer inquiries regarding adoption and shelter issues via phone and email * Check and reply to central phone voicemail as needed * Generate adoption follow up emails and calls * Work with adopters to determine the type of animal they are interested in adopting and work with the animal care staff to ensure that information is understood * Respond to challenging interactions with dissatisfied adopters/visitors * Represent PHS and promote the mission and objectives through successful communication * Provide visibility and advocacy for PHS adoption programs and services * Maintain cooperative relationships with Portsmouth Animal Control, other local and regional shelters, local veterinarians, and rescue and animal welfare/advocacy organizations * Work cohesively with Portsmouth Health Department on bite-related cases * All other duties as assigned by the Intake and Adoptions Manager and/or Executive Director TO APPLY: Send a resume and cover letter by email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the title of the position as the subject.
