SUMMARY: Responsible for the management and operation of the San Diego Humane Society’s North Campus at San Luis Rey and Airport Road, under the leadership of the Chief Operating Officer. Programmatic responsibilities include animal care, adoptions, guest relations, retail, animal admissions, animal control contract management, licensing and management of a Petco Foundation dog park. Operational success requires effective coordination with other Society departments who provide essential support services such as veterinary care, foster care, animal behavior and training, animal field services, investigations, emergency response, public relations and marketing, communication, human resources, information systems management, facilities management, development/fundraising, education and community programs, and accounting functions. Support the society’s “Getting to Zero” strategic initiatives by increasing available adoptable animals, supporting managed admissions, reducing the number of unaltered animals and through collaboration with our coalition partners. Helping to spread the culture of “Yes” across the organization and being focused/supportive to the organizational objectives will be imperative to being successful in your role and assisting to achieving our organizational goals. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervises North Campus (at both San Luis Rey and Airport Rd) Animal Services and Guest Relations Department’s staff members and volunteers with direct responsibility for Administrative support, Guest Relations Manager, Animal Services, campus inventory, and Dog Park. EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE – Degree in related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu of advanced degree. Seven (7) years professional and three (3) years supervisory experience in the animal field; two years of customer service management experience; Animal Control experience preferred. Multi-campus with Animal Shelter management experience preferred. Experience delivering presentations and public speaking required. Knowledge of operations and management of animal facilities; principles and practices of supervision and training; policy/procedure development and implementation related to animal service programs and administration; understanding of behavior assessment practices and philosophies; understanding of customer service objectives and strategies. The ability to effectively contribute in the planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the overall activities of customer service and animal care/adoption staff involved in animal care and administrative activities. Ability to identify and resolve campus operations problems; prepare management level correspondence and reports; supervise, train and evaluate the work of staff. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with an emphasis on customer service. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, the public, community/citizen groups, and representatives from government and the media. Must be able to work effectively under pressure. Must possess good computer skills including knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel, familiarity with Shelter Buddy or other animal management software. Knowledge of aftercare services an added plus. Valid CA driver’s license and good driving record required. Employees in this position may be required to use their own vehicles.
