Intake Specialist

PETA

Position Objectives: To assess and handle inquiries from the general public relating to domestic animal and wildlife cruelty issues Primary Responsibilities and Duties: • Evaluate incoming telephone calls and e-mails and provide the required responses or refer callers to the appropriate staff members • Provide research support to cruelty caseworkers on miscellaneous animal cruelty and neglect issues • Handle animal cruelty and neglect cases • Maintain confidential files, correspondence files, case reports, and other departmental reports • Handle Community Animal Project calls and check in surrendered animals • Train staff members on administrative tasks and use of the departmental database • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor Qualifications: • Degree in a related field or a minimum of two years of casework experience • Proven animal-handling skills and willingness to obtain euthanasia certification • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns • Proven ability to make sound decisions in crisis situations • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times • Proven excellent writing and research skills • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. drivers' license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
