Shelter Operations Manager

Peoria County is seeking a Shelter Operations Manager to provide support to the Director of Animal Protection Services and oversee the operation of the animal shelter. The Shelter Operations Manager reports to the Animal Control Direct and is responsible for the daily operation of the shelter including supervising a staff of 5 Kennel Technicians, 5 Animal Control Officers, and 4 Administrative Specialists. This position manages the shelter's animal population, adoption and medical programs, field rescues and impoundments, wildlife rehabilitation and removal services, and euthanasia processes. Requirements for this position include a bachelor degree in Animal Science, Zoology or related field; or credentialed veterinary technician certificate and two years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Candidate must have at least 2 years of supervisory experience. An Illinois Certified Euthanasia License or equivalent is required. Familiarity with Chameleon software and certification in Chemical Capture is preferred. Candidate must have knowledge of common animal husbandry, safe humane capture, restraint, transfer, and confinement of a variety of animals; wildlife rehabilitation; and basic animal first aid and veterinary medical emergency care. Candidate must have knowledge of and ability to work with various breeds of dogs and cats, small companion animals, indigenous wild animals, livestock or farm animals, and various exotic animals. Candidate must have familiarity with animal control ordinances and laws as well as common enforcement practices.
