JOB SUMMARY: The Stray Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of the stray wing of the Portsmouth Humane Society. This position provides oversight of daily sanitation, enrichment, placement, potential adoptability and medicine administration for all stray side animals. She/he ensures that all animals placed into PHS custody are cared for in a clean, humane and caring environment and that their health and behavior are initially evaluated and monitored daily. SUPERVISOR: Shelter Manager QUALIFICATIONS: * A fundamental commitment to the welfare of companion animals. * Proven ability to work with the public under various circumstances and in a setting that places a high value on customer service. * Proven ability to work in a high stress environment and be able to maintain a calm professional demeanor and have the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. * A BA/BS in related field or related work experience in animal husbandry. * One or more years of supervisory experience preferred. * Certified for administering humane euthanasia (or willingness to get certified). * A valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record. HOURS: Normal PHS hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed to accomplish responsibilities (Full-Time Position). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Complete oversight of the daily activity of stray wing to assure a healthy and sanitary environment for all residents; manage disease outbreaks accordingly with Shelter Manager and Veterinarian’s support * Manage all stray staff throughout day * Assist in monitoring of all release dates (to include but not limited to stray 5 and 10 day holds, court dates, appeals and quarantine) and coordinate exams, tests, vaccinations, behavior assessment and moves to adoptable housing * Manages shelter capacity by making maximum use of all available housing * Keep stray dog board up to date as animals are moved up, leave or arrive * Assist with health exams as needed * Assists in administration of all medication and routine health checks for all stray animals * Makes sure all animals have updated cage cards * Make sure kennel is stocked with needed supplies and let shelter manager know when items are needed * Assist in keeping ALL stray walkways and rooms clean and organized * Responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all kennel employees and volunteers. * Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager/Executive Director. OTHER CONDITIONS THAT ARE UNIQUE TO THE POSITION: Exposure to various zoonotic diseases and behaviors.
