Responsibilities • Highest level of accountability for the League’s shelters and offsite outreach operations including animal care, animal intake, adoptions, veterinary medicine, behavior, and related programs. • Develop, implement, and monitor strategy, programs, and protocols to ensure and promote the high standard of care and adoption of animals in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and the standards of the Dumb Friends League. • Monitor and evaluate departmental/area processes and procedures to maximize efficient uses of resources. • Create statistical reports and use data to support and shape operational actions and decisions. • Collaborate with partner organizations to develop, maintain, and improve programs that further the League’s mission and animal welfare. • Represent the League at special events, community meetings, conferences, etc. to promote and further the League’s mission. • As a member of the League’s executive team participate in and lead efforts to develop strategic initiatives and broad organizational objectives. • Develop and monitor both revenue and expense budgets. • Recruit, hire, develop and coach and counsel staff members. Position Specifications: Education, Experience, Certification and Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience • Five years senior level management experience in animal welfare or animal related field • Extensive working knowledge of animal shelter operations • Experience in developing and monitoring budgets and strategic plans • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing • Excellent interpersonal skills • Strong organizational, planning and critical thinking skills • Knowledge of veterinary medicine Desired • Working knowledge of Chameleon – shelter database Work Conditions and Physical Requirements Work performed in office and shelter setting. Will be subject to animal bites and scratches and areas with a high noise level. Frequent moving around shelter to monitor and assess programs and shelter conditions. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation. Will maintain availability outside of normal working hours to respond to and handle critical situations.
