  • Foster Care Coordinator

    Houston SPCA

    The Houston SPCA is seeking candidates for the Foster Care Coordinator position. The primary goal of the foster care program is to find temporary homes for animals that are not yet eligible for adoption due to injury, illness or other special needs. The Foster Care Coordinator works with current Houston SPCA volunteers to make successful temporary placements. The Foster Care Coordinator has complete program oversight, which includes reporting statistics, recruitment and management of volunteer staff; excellent relationship management and customer service skills are key. Individuals must be detail oriented, able to manage multiple priorities and manage conflict. Strong computer skills, phone skills, organizational skills and time management are a must. Previous experience working in the animal welfare field desired, but not required. Position is full time, requiring weekend work.

    Veterinary Technician needed for busy veterinary clinic to care for area pets and shelter animals. Essential Duties & Functions: • Feed, water, exercise and general husbandry of the hospitalized patients and shelter animals. • Collect specimens and perform basic laboratory procedures. • Assist in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures including euthanasia. • Monitor basic vital signs of patients. • Administer subcutaneous fluids as directed. • Basic restraint for exams and radiology. • Fill prescriptions. • Monitor animals’ recovery from surgery and notify veterinarians of unusual changes or symptoms. • Obtain basic patient history from guardians. • Explain discharge and medical instruction to clients.
