    Great Plains SPCA is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and innovative Associate Veterinarian to join our 8 doctor practice at our Merriam, KS campus. Nearly 25,000 pets were served at our public, affordable Veterinary Care Center in 2014 and demand for services continues to grow. Responsibilities will include: providing high quality diagnostics and care to public wellness patients, determining the best treatment options for clients with a limited ability to pay for services, dentistry, spay/neuter and other surgeries, and assistance with shelter medicine. Candidates must thrive and be comfortable working in a high-paced environment and able to effectively prioritize and manage stressful situations. Candidates must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Kansas, eligible for a DEA license, and it is preferred that candidates also be, or willing to become, licensed in the state of Missouri. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

    The City of Hutchinson’s Animal Services division was created in 2006 and has the current capacity of sheltering 40 dogs, 36 cats, 12 holding cages for stray cats or other species, 6 isolation cat cages, 4 dog isolation cages, and 17 intake kennels. This management position is responsible for directing the operations of Animal Services which encompasses the animal shelter and animal control enforcement activities along with supervision of four shelter technicians, three Animal Control Officers and numerous volunteers. This position is also responsible for ensuring consistent enforcement of animal control codes by staff; coordinating veterinary care, and euthanasia as needed; administration of the animal licensing program; developing effective public education/prevention programs; and building close relationships with other animal rescues and volunteer organizations.
