  • Volunteer & Foster Coordinator

    The Volunteer & Foster Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, ensuring/tracking training, scheduling, and providing support for our volunteer and foster network; coordinating quarterly educational and social in-service events for our volunteers and fosters; managing volunteer rewards program; coordinating weekend adoption events with shelter staff; and assisting with other small events as needed. Requirements: Must have prior volunteer management experience. Age 18+, “people person” with a friendly and positive can-do attitude, excellent customer service skills, must have your own reliable transportation, be able to lift at least 25lbs, be able to prioritize, multi task, and work efficiently and independently in a fast paced work environment. Prior experience working with animals is a plus, but not required, however must love animals and be comfortable working with dogs of all shapes and sizes, cats, rabbits, and other small animals.

    Animal Welfare League is now looking for part time and/or full time animal caretakers. Animal caretakers provide quality daily care for the shelter animals. Responsibilities include cleaning of kennels and cages, feeding, exercise and enrichment. Cleaning tasks such as mopping, sweeping, doing dishes, and laundry are also expected. The caretakers are a key component to keeping our animals safe, healthy, and happy in the shelter environment; the animals thrive on quality time spent with them, learning their personalities and their needs, which can in turn be shared with potential adopters looking for their lifetime canine or feline companions. Animal handling is a requirement of the job, and experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to teach those who want to learn.   • Feline Transport Assistance Driver (Volunteer)

    PurrHaven, Inc has received grants to fund spay neuter for unowned feral cats and begin to put an end cat overpopulation in Washington County Maryland. But we need volunteers to get these needy kitties from the Hagerstown Maryland area to the Metro Ferals spay neuter clinic in Eldersburg Maryland which is open every other Sunday. You can either do the morning drive in to the clinic and the afternoon pickup or just one of the shifts. You must love animals, be a cautious, careful driver, be on time, and have excellent driving record and no criminal background. Your vehicle must be enclosed and climate controlled (no open bed pickup trucks) and accommodate a minimum of 5 covered humane traps with cats. Even if you can only volunteer just one time, you will be contributing to ending feline over population and saving lives. Our benefits are: stipend for gas, and free dry bagged cat food, or a gift certificate for lunch for two at the new Big Cork Vineyard for in Rohrersville Maryland.
