Glam Shots: Using a Digital Camera to Help Animals Show Their Best Sides
By Katina Antoniades

Capturing Creature Features

Go outside. Try not to take photographs that show animals staring at you from behind bars or glass. Bring dogs outside on a leash if possible—they’ll be perkier, and you’ll avoid that white-glowing-eye effect that the flash can produce when pictures are taken inside. Partly closed eyes aren’t much better than eerie glowing eyes, so make sure you don’t position the animal directly facing the sun. Sunlight coming from the side works better.

A cat of a different color. Try to find a quiet room where you can photograph cats in front of a background that differs from the color of their fur. Be careful with black cats, though—a black cat against white surroundings can be a tricky combination. Raise the “cute factor” by using seasonal fabric as a background—shamrocks in March, or jack o’ lanterns in October, for example.

These are just two of the digital photography tips.  Read all the tips.
