The shelter in this old photo has come a long way, baby

It may not be as well-known as Joe Rosenthal’s shot of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, or as beloved as the picture of the Beatles striding across Abbey Road, but this photo of a hapless local and a sly puss represents a little piece of history.

It’s been circulating as a postcard for years, but no one seems to know the story behind the shot: Who took it? Where? Was it a set-up? And what happened to the cat?

At least one of those questions can be answered. A little research turned up an Animal Rescue League that once had a location at 366 Albany St. As any Red Sox fan could tell you, all roads lead to Beantown.
