What’s the most unusual or interesting donation you’ve ever received? Were you able to use it? If so, how? That was the question we asked you for this issue’s Coffee Break. Many of you wrote about donors who only thought they were donating something useful, several mentioned fur coats, some even mentioned “donations” of live animals! One of the unusual gifts our shelter has received is a Mega Millions lottery ticket in memory of a moth. Apparently, a moth landed on the windshield of a donor’s car, and she thought that by putting on the windshield wipers she would be helping to give the moth the “push” that he needed to fly away. Unfortunately, during what she believed to be an act of kindness, she feared she had killed the moth (but didn’t know for sure!). Because she felt so bad about the incident, she bought us the lottery ticket in memory of the moth, hoping that the shelter would win millions to help other animals. Needless to say, the donation didn’t turn out to be the big winner!

We had someone come to us and “donate” a blind pig. Not only did they donate a blind pig, they wanted to know how much the pig was worth so they could take it off on their taxes. The piggy has a home here for the rest of her life.
