According to the State Public Health Veterinarian of California, Fort Dodge Animal Health recently sent informative letters and question-and-answer scripts to veterinarians who they were aware had ordered Serial 873113A of the Rabvac^TM 3 TF vaccine in the past 6 months. While the vaccine was tested and found to be safe and effective according to USDA-approved testing requirements before it was released in November 2004, a recent test indicated an issue with its duration of protection. The company is voluntarily recalling the product and suggesting animals who have been vaccinated with Serial 873113A be revaccinated.
