After seeing the conditions of some shelters in her home state of Kentucky, Beckey Reiter vowed to achieve better legal protection for animals

When Beckey Reiter started work as a kennel technician at what is now Louisville Metro Animal Services, she thought it was a temporary job. She couldn’t have imagined that 17 years later she would be a major player in what she calls “a huge step for animal control in Kentucky”—a law that was passed in 2004 after years of effort by people in the field.
