That’s One Small Adoption Van!

Not even a toy poodle could fit into the latest vehicles acquired by the SPCA Serving Erie County in Tonawanda, New York.

That’s because the vehicles themselves are toys— commemorative pieces created by Fisher Price and donated to the shelter. The toy company has been creating such pieces for charities for the last 20 years, and this year decided to design one based on the Whisker Wag’n, the SPCA’s mobile adoption van.

Originally the company wanted to replicate a 1930s toy that depicted a dog pulling a bike cart with the words “Hot Dogs” on the side. But after the SPCA expressed concern over the meat reference, Fisher Price suggested exchanging the hot dog cart with a miniature Whisker Wag’n. The shelter enthusiastically agreed to the change and plans to sell the 500 donated toys to raise funds for kennel renovations.
