Study examines how religious beliefs affect people’s feelings about pet loss

The nature and meaning of death is an issue that all religions seek to answer. Belief in heaven, reincarnation, or some other form of afterlife plays a central part in most of the world’s faiths—but ideas about what that afterlife may look like and how a believer can reach it vary starkly. Yet in spite of the differences in dogma among people of diverse faiths, a study published in the journal Anthrozoös indicated that those differences are not reliable predictors of how people will react when confronting the death of a pet.
