Shelby Schulz

Pet Resource Manager, Kentucky Humane Society

Shelby’s core philosophy is you cannot help animals without helping people. This belief has guided her throughout her career. She has a degree in Sociology and Communications, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a focus in non-profits. She started as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter. An animal lover, she applied this passion to the organization’s partnership with the Kentucky Humane Society to place pets of shelter residents in temporary foster. Shelby combined her love of animals and helping people by working at the Kentucky Humane Society. Starting as an Admissions Counselor, she was soon promoted to Help Line Coordinator of the Pet Help Line. As their pet retention clientele grew, Shelby was promoted to Pet Resource Manager and hired three Pet Resource Counselors to handle the astronomical growth. In her 4 years in the department Shelby has pioneered innovation in data tracking and incorporating client follow ups that has led to a 500% increase in grant support for their work. Shelby also merged the organization’s Help Line and Admissions in order to speak with every client considering surrender. This led to an increase in pet retention services as calls increased by 120%.
