Stephen Bardy

Stephen Bardy is Executive Director of the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando (PAGO), which services the community through two shelters, two veterinary clinics, a mobile clinic and numerous offsite partnerships. He also serves on the board of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations. Prior to joining PAGO, Steve served Florida’s abused and neglected children in the nonprofit and governmental sectors for 25 years and has earned state and national awards for his program initiatives. From a young age Steve has shared his life with former shelter dogs; currently he is blessed with Milo, Molly and her 8 foster puppies.

    Start a pet apartment registry and reduce animal surrenders

    When I moved to Orlando in 2013, I had to rent an apartment for the first time in 25 years. It was a wonderful, friendly place. In fact, management didn’t charge me a pet deposit for my two dogs; they didn’t even ask me what kind of dogs I had. Based on my experience, I just assumed that every rental community allowed dogs. I came to learn that nearly 75 percent of rental communities claim to be “pet-friendly” while only accepting very small dogs and cats, which excludes many of our nation’s most popular pets.
