Emergency animal care grants

The primary purpose of the grants is to assist 501(c)(3) organizations, municipal/tribal agencies, or veterinary partners with direct financial support for the care of animals who are victims of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and its current and future economic consequences.

The priority will be programs that are assisting communities by keeping animals in homes. This may include general contributions or assistance with the purchase and/or distribution of necessities such as food, medical supplies and veterinary services. Funding for veterinary services will be limited to those intended to address immediate life-threatening conditions and quality of life concerns.

Each funding request will be based on the completion of this application form and consensus of a committee. Requests from any geographic region will be considered, but priority will be given to communities in which HSUS has a programmatic presence. Cities that receive grants will need to complete the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ City Assessment as part of their grant acceptance.

These grants are supported by a matching grant from the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program of Mars Petcare, which works to help cities across the U.S. be more pet-friendly. Along with applying for a grant, communities can explore pet-friendly certification through the program, which includes making pets part of policy conversations and working to end pet homelessness.
