From the moment animals enter the shelter, they are learning from their experiences. Using Fear Free approaches, shelter staff and volunteers can set animals up for positive learning experiences that will keep them healthier both emotionally and physically. In this session, you’ll explore the principles of classical and operant conditioning, desensitization, habituation and flooding. We will also discuss the pitfalls of aversive training and responsible shelter use of anxiety medications and alternatives.
