Join us to discuss the national crisis of far too many people being forced to choose between keeping a pet, being safe and retaining housing. You’ll learn why people end up living on the streets or in cars, what circumstances lead to these dire situations, and why victims of domestic violence sometimes remain in unsafe homes to protect their pets. How can we help people and pets in harm’s way? Where can impacted individuals and animals go? What role can we play in helping them find housing? This session will focus on domestic violence, lack of affordable and pet-friendly housing, addiction, and mental illness—all of which play a part in the crisis facing people and their pets. You will learn about solutions that actually work and how the animal protection community can help.
