Nationally, rabbits are the third-most surrendered species to shelters. You’ll learn best practices for the care of rabbits in the shelter, veterinary care and proven ways of finding great homes, including rabbit handling, sexing, developing an adoption process, publicity and promotion and networking with rabbit rescues in large-scale confiscations and emergencies. This session will have practical recommendations for shelters of all sizes to help rabbits in their communities. Presenting data from several shelters, we’ll also discuss how legislative advocacy and policy changes in California, with the passage of the law prohibiting the sale of rabbits in pet stores, is beginning to have an impact in the volume of rabbits coming into the shelters.
