Job Description

FOHA’s Operations Director manages a variety of operations at FOHA including animal care, behavior modification/ enrichment program, medical care, volunteer teams, basic facilities and grounds maintenance, technology, and special projects. You will be the one to ensure that our business is well-coordinated and productive by managing its procedures and coaching its people. The area of responsibility for this role is very wide and thus requires thorough knowledge of various company processes. The ideal candidate must be competent and able to plan many kinds of operational activities. He/She must be an excellent leader who can discover more efficient ways to run the business. You will report to a full-time Executive Director (who reports to the Board of Directors) The goal is to safeguard and augment the efficiency of the company’s operations to achieve FOHA’s mission of saving homeless animals, giving them a second chance at life and love.

Responsibilities

Oversee operations to ensure optimal animal care, maintaining the highest standards, for dogs and cats at the shelter and in foster care providing leadership and working in a cooperative manner.
Lead, grow, and document processes for FOHA’s Behavior and Enrichment programs to ensure optimal results. Work to develop assessments for the animals in FOHA’s care, assist in the development of individual profiles and use appropriate training resources as needed.
Develop the volunteer program for most efficient and effective utilization of volunteers. Including management/tracking systems. Work collaboratively with volunteer teams to achieve FOHA’s mission.
Conduct development of and annual review of standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and protocols.
Liaise with superior to make decisions for operational activities assist in developing strategic goals and help in monitoring of strategic plan compliance.
Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of a variety of business activities to ensure smooth progress
Supervise staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback and opportunities for growth
Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements and monitor activities to ensure progress towars goals.
Manage relationships/agreements with vendors
Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
Ensure effective and efficient use of technology to achieve FOHA’s mission
Along with supervisor, prepare, update and administer emergency preparedness plans.
Qualifications/Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Commitment to animal welfare and a strong belief in animal rescue
Five years plus of progressive animal shelter operations experience, including behavioral programs
Five years plus of experience directly supervising staff
Five years plus of volunteer management experience
Ability to work independently without close supervision

Experience with dog socialization and training preferred as well as knowledge of dog behavior and general positive reinforcement methods
Experience with cat behavior and socialization preferred
Must be self-motivated, and have a strong work ethic
Must be available to work weekends and attend meetings
Ability to take initiative and work with a positive, upbeat, and energetic outlook
Ability to handle, walk, and work with dogs weighing over 100 pounds
Hold a valid driver's license with ability to drive on behalf of the organization
Ability to lift 40 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions
