Job Description

The shelter medicine program at MADACC is a key component in our efforts to achieve our organization’s objectives which are focused on caring for animals and improving placement rates. The Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is a key member of the Medical Department, bringing his/her knowledge of shelter animal care and surgical expertise to the team. The CVT will be responsible for assisting with surgical procedures (primarily spay/neuter of cats and dogs but other procedures done as needed). In addition, performing an initial evaluation of an animal's condition at intake of animals, cleaning and wrapping wounds, collecting samples and administering medication, updating patient files in an accurate and timely fashion, performing basic lab work, and performing procedures such as dental cleaning, and rabies vaccinations for patients and shelter clients in the shelter and at off-site clinics under veterinary supervision.

Our medical department is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment for triaging injured animals from the 19 municipalities that comprise Milwaukee County. We have digital radiography, ultrasound, and dental equipment. Our facility was fully renovated in 2016 and was designed with animal health and quality of life as the focus.

The CVT position is a non-exempt, full time, 40 hour per week position.
