The Development Assistant will be an integral part of the Development team, maintaining an effective infrastructure to support the Development Department. The Development Assistant will ensure the proper acceptance, recording, processing and acknowledgment of gifts and pledges; support the growth of our individual giving program through donor stewardship; and assist with fundraising events. The incumbent will maintain relevant information about individual, corporate, foundation and government funders, ACC monthly giving program, honorary and memorial gifts, bequests, matching gifts and in-kind donations. He/she will work independently and as a team member, participating in special events and other fundraising activities.
Donor Database Management (40%)
Perform all donor and prospect data entry and manage the proper acceptance, recording, processing and acknowledgment of donations (monetary and in-kind) in Raiser’s Edge.
Process daily donations (checks, cash, credit cards and in-kind), prepare deposits, and scan pertinent information into Raiser’s Edge to maintain up-to-date, comprehensive and precise donor records.
Manage Raiser’s Edge systems for detailed coding and tracking constituent information, entering data using imports and batches and outputting data using queries, exports and reports.
Collaborate with ACC’s Development Manager and Director of Development on direct mail, e-mail, and events calendar by supervising list creation, tracking appeal history in RE, and providing analysis of campaign results.
Support department’s administrative needs, including running scheduled and ad hoc reports, preparing correspondence, filing, scanning, copying, and other projects and duties as assigned.
Donor Relations (30%)
Serve as first point of contact for general supporter inquiries, responding to phone calls, e-mails, and letters and serving as an ambassador to our supporters.
Collaborate with the team to provide personalized acknowledgements for donors as well as third-party fundraisers.
Assist with the development of donor communications, including appeals, newsletters, and reports.
Special Events (30%)
Collaborate in the development of special events, including an annual Gala and other fundraising and “friend-raising” events.
Liaise with sponsors, donors, vendors, and volunteers to ensure the seamless execution of events.
Collaborate with ACC’s Marketing and Communications staff to promote events to the ACC community.

Capable of prioritizing projects, meeting deadlines, and multi-tasking in a fast paced environment. Be creative and have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity. Knowledge of and passion for the health, welfare, and protection of animals. Must have a genuine love of animals!
Education and Work Experience
Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office, and an interest and ability in learning new software. Knowledge in Luminate and Import-O-Matic Software, a plus.
ACC has five locations across the five boroughs and a corporate headquarters in downtown Manhattan. This position is located in our headquarters and includes occasional visits to the other animal sheltering locations. The headquarters has an office cat and on occasion other animals. When visiting shelter locations, employee may be exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals, and high levels of noise.

Overtime: This is a non-union position and is eligible for overtime.
