Job Summary: As the Development Director of Nuzzles & Co., the primary role of this position is to secure philanthropic support to consistently move the organization to the next level of animal rescue and sheltering. Utilizing metrics-driven fundraising initiatives, this position focuses on relationship-building, cultivation, and stewardship of individuals, foundations, and companies, to ensure a diversified revenue stream to support the organization's mission. Additionally, as a key member of the leadership team, this position must provide effective collaboration and synergy strategies with administration, operations, and programs to achieve the overall goals and objectives of Nuzzles & Co.
Primary Responsibilities: -Create, oversee and implement annual development budgets, fundraising strategies and public relations plans for Donor/Appeal Campaigns (mail, email, social media), Grants, Special Events, Sponsorships, and Planned Giving.
-Develop and grow individual donor base through management of the direct mail campaigns, including writing all appeals, overseeing the mailing schedule, and implementing digital strategies in correlation with the direct mail plan.
-Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential individual donors, foundations, and companies (including the production and oversight of all donor, sponsor and member correspondence, and letters of acknowledgement).
-Research and write grant proposals to corporations and foundations for operational and program support. Work with the management team to identify funds needed, preferred funding targets, and approaches. Track and report on all grant spending and program progress to funders to ensure future funding opportunities.
-Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy through e-mails and social media. Also work closely with the Executive Director and Marketing Director to ensure marketing and branding is consistently communicated.
-Supervise public affairs matters related to development, particularly the creation of various communications such as the annual report, online/publication biolerplates, mass e-mails, and general content for website.
-Train and lead management and staff to support a culture of philanthropy.
-Work in partnership with the Executive Director to create a culture of philanthropy on the Board of Directors, and engage the board in fundraising.
-Directly supervise the Events & Development Assistant and any new department employees that are added. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
-Database and Records Management – Supervise and coordinate activities of maintaining NetworkforGood, Google Files, and paper records of donations and grants.
-Maintain security and quality controls of donor information.
-Generate queries, reports, exports and any other collection data as needed for financial reports.
-Create reports on fundraising progress to the Executive Director monthly as requested for Board Meetings, and after all events and campaigns.
-Attend and lead all Development Committee meetings with the committee chair and other committee members.
Desired Qualifications: -Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field is preferred; Bachelor’s Degree is required.
-3-5 Years Development experience in the nonprofit sector.
-Passion about animal welfare and a love of working with animals.
-Excellent organizational abilities: setting priorities, meeting deadlines, managing work flow and multi-tasking.
-Externally Focused: Demonstrates ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors and potential donors
-Initiative: Consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances. Able to work independently.
-Interpersonal Savvy: Ability to relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people. Ability to inspire confidence in Nuzzles staff, volunteer leadership, current and prospective donors.

-Ability to maintain and manage multiple projects, campaigns, budgets and timelines simultaneously.
-Experience with donor CRMs such as NetworkforGood, Raiser’s Edge, Sales Force, etc.
-Experience with Excel, Word, and Publisher.
-Any skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign is preferred.
-Ability to interact with high level donors/sponsors and board members in a positive and professional manner.
-Excellent written and verbal skills.
-Ability to professionally advocate the Nuzzle’s programs and animals.
-Ability to work with a positive outlook, upbeat, energetic and taking initiative.

This position works Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Weekends or evenings will be required for fundraising events as scheduled.
