The Washington Animal Rescue League and Washington Humane Society merged one year ago to form the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA). This new, vibrant organization has dramatically increased its donor base and plans to enter a major capital in the next 6-12 months. We seek an active, out-the-door, passionate Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to engage with donors with the potential to give at the five- and six-figure levels. He or she will build relationships, share our inspiring plans, and, with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and other leadership staff, develop and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans. He or she will also manage cultivation activities for our Guardian Society ($1,000+ donors).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage a portfolio of 100 donors capable of giving at the five- and six-figure levels.
Spend approximately 70% of his/her time directly interacting with donors to build relationships, request gifts, and steward their support.
Attend HRA events to identify and cultivate new potential donors.
Make discovery calls to new donors who make gifts of $1,000+ to HRA and recommend cultivation paths for them.
Collaborate with the CDO on engaging board members and volunteers in approaches to donors; planning for and carrying out the capital campaign; and managing the Guardians as a group.
As appropriate, introduce planned giving opportunities to prospects to secure invaluable support for endowments and future activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising
Experience working directly with major donors and board-level volunteers
Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Ability to present, inform and motivate individuals and groups about HRA’s mission and the importance of raising funds in support of the mission.
Goal-oriented, persistent and persuasive in the contact, follow-through and completion of acquiring major donor gifts
Ability to implement and execute numerous projects, prioritize, and partner with others
Education and Experience:
Minimum of three years’ experience engaging with donors and securing gifts at the five- and six-figure level
Demonstrated record of success in securing progressively larger gifts and sustaining donor engagement
A bachelor’s degree
Commitment to HRA’s mission
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with capital campaigns and Raiser’s Edge a plus
