This critical position is responsible for the oversight and success of the New Orleans Humane Law and Rescue organization including Animal Care, Behavior Evaluation, Client Care, Adoptions, Foster Care, Law Enforcement and Rabies Licensing. This position will ensure that the highest quality of services is delivered to the community, as well as ensure the efficient daily operations of the LA/SPCA shelter.

The successful jobholder is a visionary leader who is curious and innovative, actively researching, considering and implementing best practices within established operational and capital budgets; Exceptional at motivating and developing employees, this role will foster an environment where ideas, creativity and regular input from all team members is expected and routine; Excellent at building high performing teams, the position will manage all talent development including feedback, performance management and continuous individual development for all key team members; This includes being skilled at confronting and resolving people issues and any performance issues;

Adept at prioritization and project management, the role manages the organizations short, medium and long-range projects; Works closely with supervisors to establish work plans that ensure departments meet or exceed operational goals, as well as develop measures and dashboards to articulate success;

Responsible for leading organizational and procedural change and communicates change clearly and succinctly to all team members, senior leadership, and outside constituents;

An effective delegator, the position makes sure that all employees receive the correct technical and leadership training, and that effective procedures and guidance tools are continuously improved, updated and maintained;

Excels in building effective and collaborative relationships with customers, other animal welfare/control agencies and all parts of the organization as community issues;

Takes the lead role in ensuring business continuity in emergencies and develops and maintains the Storm/Emergency Response Plan;

The role has overall responsibility for ensuring that all controlled substances are accounted for and will assist in euthanasia decisions. As a result, it is a requirement for this position to become certified in euthanasia and perform euthanasia as required;
