Animal Rescue Rhode Island in South Kingstown (“ARRI”) is currently seeking a Dog Behavior and Enrichment Specialist. This position is responsible for assisting the shelter manager and training team with the development, implementation, and monitoring of the shelter animal behavior and enrichment programs.
This position will be responsible for the behavioral health and wellness of all dogs at Animal Rescue Rhode Island.
Works closely with the Shelter Manager and the rest of the Behavior and Enrichment team
Evaluate new dog intakes
Coordinate and oversee daily playgroups using the Dogs Playing For Life philosophies
Address all staff and volunteer behavior assessment requests
May assist staff to bring in or accept the organization’s rescued dogs
Assist in the development of behavior plans for dogs to improve adoptability
Help to develop and implement enrichment programs and identify, treat and prevent behavior issues as available thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns.
Respond to behavior email and telephone adoption follow-up and public inquiries
Assess and record medical and behavior changes in dogs both visually and audibly.
Promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation between intake, training, and all other departments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Shelter experience and credentials in dog training and/or behavior preferred (e.g., ACAAB, ACDBD, CAAB, CDBC, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP)
