The Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County is seeking an innovative and passionate leader to serve as Executive Director. This professional will lead a team of staff and volunteers and oversee the operations of the non-profit animal shelter located in northeastern Indiana. Community Humane Shelter serves nearly 2,300 animals each year in its mission to use best practices to find forever homes for animals in our care, and to promote and assist in the humane treatment of all animals. The Executive Director is expected to:
• Lead and direct the staff and volunteers
• Oversee all daily operations
• Monitor and continually improve visitor experience
• Develop and maintain the organization’s annual budget
• Cultivate and build strong community partnerships
• Establish and coordinate community education and support programs
• Chair shelter events and fundraisers
• Uphold the organization’s strategic plan, existing policies and mission
• Oversee and promote development and marketing initiatives
• Work in collaboration with the Board of Directors on long-term shelter objectives and planning
• Represent the shelter as the chair spokesperson
• Serves as liaison with vendors, contractors and consultants to assure performance under agreements with the Community Humane Shelter

• Have demonstrated fundraising success
• Excel at decision-making under high-pressure, stressful and emotional circumstances
• Maintain a positive, supportive attitude at all times
• Have excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
The ideal candidate should have:
• Minimum five years of experience working in an animal shelter, animal rights or wildlife rehabilitation center, with at least two years of administrative or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
• College degree or equivalent education and experience combination. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
