Job Description

Founded in 1912 with the mission of eliminating animal suffering; the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is the only private animal shelter on the Middle Peninsula of coastal Virginia. In 2017, GMHS took in 1507 animals and maintained “no-kill” standards for dogs, cats and other animals with a combined live-release rate of 95%. GMHS is an open-admission facility with a managed intake policy. GMHS acts as the animal control facility for 2 counties as well as provide care for and facilitate outcomes for the Gloucester County animal control shelter, a separate facility, and operate a high quality/high volume low cost spay/neuter clinic. GMHS has a growing foster program and a TNR support initiative. GMHS has 27 full-time and 5 part-time employees and over 150 volunteers; people with a passion for animal welfare are at the heart of our organization and we are currently seeking an experienced leader, with a proven track record in fundraising including developing, and maintaining donor relations as well as identifying, cultivating and soliciting new funding sources, and coordinating and managing Board fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will be a relationship builder, fundraiser, spokesperson, and manager with a passion for saving animals.

Essential Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Minimum of 10 years of executive level experience working with a non-profit organization preferred
  • Experience managing a budget of $1-3 million
  • Animal welfare experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record in fundraising and revenue development
  • Success in Board stewardship/management
  • Ability to pass a background check

This is a full time job.
