Alaqua Animal Refuge is the Southeast’s premier no-kill 501(c) refuge and sanctuary committed to the work of rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding new homes for animals. Recognized as a leader in animal rescue, welfare, cruelty prevention, and advocacy across the US, we are seeking an experienced Executive Director (ED) to lead our organization through an upcoming period of growth as we transition to a state-of-art, multimillion-dollar facility and expand programs and services. The ED should possess a combination of sophisticated fundraising, organizational leadership, and programmatic skills, while demonstrating strategic thinking and a passion for the welfare of animals.

Position Expectation:
The ED will work closely with the President to collaborate, plan, and determine next steps regarding all aspects of the organization. The ED will represent Alaqua with the President at events and functions to share Alaqua’s story and will be the face of Alaqua in the President’s absence at events, including public speaking engagements and presentations to educate the public on Alaqua’s mission and vision.

Required Qualifications
• Must be able to work with animals, have an affection for animals and concern for their welfare
• Minimum of BA or BS degree in Animal Science, Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, or Related
• Minimum 5-7 years of successful management experience at the senior leadership level that include hiring, training, motivating, coaching, promoting, supervising, evaluating, terminating
• Able to work beyond normal office hours and attend functions at night and on weekends
• Experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, data-driven decision making, and able to develop a culture with effective teams which deliver measurable results, is a team player
• Experience in fundraising from a diverse mix of individual donors, corporations, and foundations
• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation skills, and public speaking skills
• Ability to develop meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Strong organizational and time management skills, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines
• Flexible, can handle stress, balance multiple projects, and make decisions in unexpected situations
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technology programs quickly

• Experience working with nonprofit organizations and animal rescue organizations
• Understanding of animal welfare issues, industry practices, and state/federal regulations
• Experience with quality management and continuous improvement processes/tools
• Experience with grant writing, database, software programs including Salesforce, Greater Giving, and Microsoft Teams

Annual Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year
