Job Description

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Regular Humane Educator to join our Community Engagement team!

This position develops and presents programs to educate the community about the services and roles of San Diego Humane Society, and to engage and encourage the community to adopt, donate, volunteer and embrace positive behaviors regarding animals. The primary role of this position is to educate youth about animal welfare topics through various educational programs, such as birthday parties, Scout programs and other activities, thus, furthering our mission to inspire compassion.

Education, Skills, and Experience:
Requires four-year college degree (or equivalent) preferably in teaching or related field. One year paid classroom teaching or informal teaching experiences such as in camp, humane society, nature center, zoo or aquarium programs preferred. CA teaching credential and/or comfort working with CA State Educational Standards preferred. Project development and/or administration experience preferred. Must be able to work with diverse groups of children and adults. Must have strong public speaking, presentation and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy in word processing, desktop publishing and database use required. Strong organizational and communications (verbal and written) skills required. Excellent time management, multi-tasking and organizational skills. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines required. Must work efficiently under pressure and be flexible to a fast paced work environment. Valid CA Driver’s License and excellent driving record required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Interest in animals and animal handling experience preferred. This position is best suited for an educator with an upbeat, enthusiastic personality that both children and adults can easily relate to.
