Intake Specialist
Our mission is building a community of caring by helping animals and educating people.
The Anti-Cruelty Society has opened its search for a full-time Intake Specialist. Under the direct supervision of the Intake Supervisor and in cooperation with Shelter Management, the Intake Specialist will provide courteous and empathetic service to persons surrendering animals to the shelter. With care for safety humanely euthanize animals.
Essential Job Functions
 Obtain accurate and detailed information at intake while imparting The Anti-Cruelty Society’s policies.
 Administer vaccines and deworming according to protocol, attach identification tab band, perform small scale physical exams and determine appropriate shelter housing.
 Accurately input information into The Anti-Cruelty Society’s database.
 Upon certification and licensing, perform humane euthanasia.
 In conjunction with Animal Behavior Specialist, plan and coordinator behavior assessments to ensure timely completion.
 Follow established enrichment and animal behavior modification plans.
 Socialize animals as time allows.
 Have adequate understanding of The Anti-Cruelty Society adoption and disposition policies and be able to communicate them to the public.
 Feed, water and safely move animals; obeying all special restrictions placed on animals; exercising caution when handling animals and seeking help when necessary. Mark all kennel cards and report any abnormalities to a manager as soon as possible.
 Respond to Intake Hotline inquires professionally and knowledgeably.
 Provide intake reception coverage and schedule intake appointments.
 Respect the physical plant and equipment; report all building, caging and environmental problems to a management or maintenance staff member as soon as possible.
 Ensure that all equipment is in good repair, adequately stocked and kept neatly in its appropriate place. Stocking can be accomplished using wheeled carts.
 Operate and carefully maintain all records necessary to ensure accurate cash and credit handling.
 Attend all scheduled meetings.
 Assume other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED required. Certified Euthanasia Technician within one year of hire. Minimum of one year of experience working in this field or related field preferred. The ideal candidate must have a pleasant demeanor, be objective, courteous and reasonable at all times. Must respect animals and believe in The Anti-Cruelty Society‘s mission and philosophy. A minimum of one year experience required working in this field or a related field.
