The annual salary range is $45,686 - $73,097
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; coordinates staff training.
Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
Oversees assigned staffs compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Oversees and assists in the maintenance and welfare of the animals in the shelter which may include assisting in the dispensing of medication, microchipping and completing initial intake of animals: provides general care to animals by bathing, grooming, exercising, treating for fleas/ticks as needed, etc.; observes all animals for signs of illness or injury and reports any changes to the Veterinary Technician, the Veterinarian or the Shelter Manager; assures fresh food is provided daily to all animals housed at the facility and according to feeding schedule and dietary needs. Performs behavior evaluations, training protocols and playgroup assessments.
Coordinates volunteer training and foster care program with the Program Coordinator. Assists administrative technicians with adoption counseling and customer service.
Interacts and communicates comfortably with various groups and individuals such as Veterinary Technician, Animal Shelter Manager and the general public; coordinates work activities with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the facility. Contributes information for establishing staff meeting agendas and; notifies Manager of pertinent procedures, policies or practices identified for corrective changes; assures changes or revisions are incorporated into the staff meeting agenda to be reviewed with staff.
Prepares and completes various forms, reports, correspondence logs, and expenditure records.
Operates vehicle, and a variety of equipment such as washer, dryer, computer, printer, scanner, laminator, fax machine, etc.; uses specialized tools such as squeegee, scrub brushes, microchip scanner, scooper, syringes, needles, catch pole, leashes, etc.; utilizes variety of supplies such as paper, stainless steel food pans, stainless steel buckets, cleaning chemicals, pet food, general office supplies, etc.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing Animal Shelter Software (PetPoint) and Microsoft Word, internet, e-mail or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, and procedures; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession.
This classification is designed as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, kennel or similar environment is preferred; or any combination of education and experience which provides the skills and abilities for this job. Required to possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
