Placement Transporter
Summary
The Placement Transporter is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transportation of animals from ACC to our New Hope partners throughout New York State and sometimes into New Jersey. This positions requires a valid NY State driver’s license in good standing and the ability to drive a large van. When not conducting transports, the Placement Transporter will help support other placement functions including but not limited to supporting adoption efforts in shelter and at weekend mobile events as needed, assisting New Hope staff with marketing placement efforts, and helping to load and unload animals as they arrive and depart from ACC.

Responsibilities
Transportation (50%)
Ensure that animals are provided with a comfortable, safe transport between locations, in a clean, secure vehicle and always adhering to best practices for companion animal transports.
Complete daily transports for all animals placed within NYS and some placements in NJ. Including but not limited to, communicating with the receiver, ensuring that all paperwork and medication arrives with the animals, and communicating any issues that may arise on the trip back to ACC.
Map out the most optimal routes for each daily trip to maximize efficiency.
Complete emergency local transports on an as need and as available basis.
Oversee routine maintenance of the transport van which may include bringing the van to and from scheduled appointments.
Placement Department Support (30%)
Attend mobile events on the weekend and drive the Mobile Adoption Center.
Support overall placement efforts in shelter adoptions and assisting the New Hope department as needed.
Act as an ambassador for the organization in the community.
Provide exemplary customer service to our partners.
Other/Administrative (20%)
Respond to email and phone calls and communicating effectively with the New Hope Staff, ART staff as well as various supervisors throughout the day.

Qualifications
The Placement Transporter needs the ability to excel in a fast-paced, often high stress environment. They must value efficiency, punctuality and attention to detail to ensure that animals arrive at their intended destination on time. To ensure our animals are transported in maximum comfort, they always keeps the pets in mind when driving. They treat animals and people with respect and employ humane handling techniques whenever possible. The Placement Transporter is customer driven and focused on providing a positive upbeat experience for our partners. They must have a valid driver’s license and at least one year experience working in a customer service role. Previous experience with animal handling is preferred as this position will be handling animals of a variety of temperaments, sizes, and species.They should have a great working knowledge of the NYS highway system and main transportation routes in and out of NYC. Being able to communicate effectively to a diverse clientele. Being exceptionally punctual and detail oriented.

Education and Work Experience
High School Diploma or GED required. A valid driver’s license and previous professional driving experience. This is an entry level position. While previous animal care experience is a plus, all that is required is a positive, compassionate attitude.

Work Environment
Ability to work in an animal care facility where euthanasia is performed. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the environment can be very loud. Regular travel between all ACC locations and in the field is required.

Reports To: Placement Transportation Supervisor.

Overtime: This position is hourly and eligible for overtime.
