Job Description

SUMMARY: The role of the Shelter Staff is to provide a clean and healthy environment for the Tree House Humane Society resident animals and to facilitate successful adoptions.


Accompany and guide adopters through the adoption experience including application screening, finding the right match, and shelter-to-home transition counseling. Ensures the comfort and cleanliness of resident animals by cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining animal colonies, condos, and cages. This includes, but is not limited to: mopping, sweeping, cleaning and refilling litter pans and food bowls, collecting garbage, restocking items, and spot cleaning cat towers. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains facility common areas including, but not limited to: Mopping/sweeping hallways, offices and public rooms. Cleaning bathrooms. Cleaning shelter kitchen and employee kitchen. Restocking and managing shelter supply inventory. Feed animals as scheduled and makes sure they have fresh water at all times. Provide an impeccable educational and supportive experience for all guests, which includes warmly greeting all guests of the shelter, tending to their questions, and directing inquiries appropriately. Perform adoption follow-up calls and counseling. Answer main shelter phone line and direct all calls appropriately. Facilitate each paying guests’ transactions. Properly maintain shelter records in the database management software. Work with public calls and emails regarding relinquishing pets or found strays by providing resource options and behavior counseling. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
