The Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in a Taos, NM is seeking a Veterinarian to work in both our Shelter and future Low Cost Public Clinic. This position is critical to our mission and our strategic direction as an organization. We are looking for a veterinarian who wants to make a difference for the pets and people of our community by providing quality care to sheltered and owned pets, working to advance the organization's mission, and being a team player with an incredible staff! The veterinarian must be able to perform well in an environment that can be fast-paced and challenging but ultimately is very rewarding. In the shelter, this position will work to manage medical care and health management programs for the shelter animals, including those temporarily in foster care, focusing on identification, treatment and prevention of health problems. This position will perform surgical procedures on animals, as needed, (spay/neuter, hernia repair, growth removals, dental extractions). The candidate will help aid in the decisions of euthanasia for an animal, including performing euthanasia.
Overview: We are looking for a candidate who looks at their work with a positive attitude and outlook. They must have good communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with their co-workers. This full-time position in our organization offers flexible work hours and pride of accomplishment for a veterinarian with training in shelter medicine. . A current license to practice veterinary medicine in New Mexico and ability to register with the DEA and New Mexico Controlled Substance Registry as a Practitioner is required. This candidate must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for a client-oriented individual who can work well with the public and the veterinary team providing excellent medicine in a fulfilling environment.
Taos: Stray Hearts Animal Shelter is located in the beautiful, eclectic town of Taos, NM.
