Job Description

Caring Hands Humane Society Animal Shelter seeks a part-time Veterinarian for medical care.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Provide vaccines, exams, and basic veterinary care.
Provide direction, guidance, and training for shelter staff and volunteers.
Create accurate medical records in shelter management system for actions performed, medications prescribed, and notes for staff to follow regarding any treatments.
Prescribe medications as needed.
Promote a caring attitude toward all animals and treat animals humanely and with compassion at all times, regardless of circumstances, including those that are sick, injured, feral, or aggressive.
Treat people (staff, volunteers, and the public) with respect and courtesy, foster a spirit of teamwork and perform duties in a manner that assists the organization in the achievement of its goals and encourages community support of its work.
Work cooperatively with the Executive Director and care managers.
Physical requirements:

Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals may be a disqualification.
Ability to lift and move objects and animals weighing in excess of fifty pounds for short distances and to humanely restrain an animal when necessary.

DVM or VMD degree from an accredited university with a Kansas Veterinary license.
Demonstrable skills in high-volume spay/neuter, general surgery, dentistry, daily rounds, and extensive knowledge in disease control and prevention.
An understanding that animals in shelters sometimes have different needs than animals seen in private practice.
Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with staff and volunteers in a professional, pleasant, courteous, and tactful manner at all times.
Maturity, good judgment, and professional personal appearance.
Experience volunteering or working in a shelter or TNR program is a plus.
Hourly position:

Approximately 32 hours per week
