The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) provides life-saving care and relieves suffering for animal victims of cruelty and neglect who come to us through our internal partners: ASPCA Adoption Center, Kitten Nursery, Community Medicine, and Community Engagement teams; and through our external partners: NYPD and other NYC organizations. Additionally, we provide subsidized care exclusively for animals whose owners are experiencing financial hardship and would not otherwise afford veterinary care.
We are staffed by one full time board-certified internist, one full time board-certified surgeon, one part-time, board-certified soft-tissue surgeon, 10 general practitioners, and 7 veterinary interns and have access to a board-certified radiologist.
Our ICU provides 24-hour care with a nursing staff of licensed veterinary technicians and hospital veterinary assistants. AAH has a variety of diagnostic and treatment capabilities including but not limited to: endoscopy, ultrasound, digital radiography, dental radiography, orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, I-STAT in-house blood chemistry analyzer, in-house coagulation testing, capnography, pulse oximetry, and EKG.
In this position, the Staff Veterinarian will provide care to all hospitalized inpatients on Sundays including animals from public-owned clients and animals from our internal and external partners. They will work one-on-one with an intern to provide supervision and oversee all case management. In addition, they will oversee the admission of new patients from internal partners when the hospital is closed to the public on Sundays.
The rest of the week, the Staff Veterinarian will also rotate through different services at AAH and the Animal Recovery Center (ARC) to fit operational needs. Our veterinarians currently rotate daily through surgery, treatment, dentistry, and emergency appointments.
Throughout all our work at AAH, we are passionate about minimizing fear, anxiety, and stress and pain in our patients. Team members in this position are responsible for providing service and communication to clients, members of the public, co-workers, and patients that is consistent with our practice’s standards and Fear Free values.
