Position Title: VETERINARY TECHNICIAN – As needed shifts available
Location: 1192 W. Sunset Blvd., St. George, Utah
Job Summary: The Humane Society of Utah is opening a new low cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinic in St. George. Over the next few months, as we ramp up operations, we will need a couple vet techs for shifts as needed. Once the clinic is fully open, other opportunities for part time and full time positions will become available. This position assists the doctor and other hospital staff by care and cleaning of patients and facilities including completing patient treatments, assisting in surgery and all other animal care functions as well as other tasks involved in the operations of a veterinary hospital. Experience is required.
Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a general representation of essential job requirements. Experience in performing the following tasks is required. Additional duties not listed here may be assigned as needed:
1. Client Relations, 2. Patient Care, 3. Assisting with physical examinations and patient assessments,
4. Record Keeping, 5. Anesthesia monitoring, 6. Hospital maintenance, 7. Pharmacy, 8. Venipuncture
9. Catheter placement, and 10. Animal restraint
QUALIFICATIONS: The veterinary technician must be detail oriented and be able to use basic math skills to calculate correct doses of anesthetic and other drugs. Uses leadership and organizational skills in order to maintain the smooth and efficient flow of patients. Able to maintain a high level of accuracy. While performing the essential functions of this job, the veterinary technician is regularly required to lift 50 - 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday and must be able to safely and properly restrain large and/or fractious animals. Technicians are regularly required to kneel, bend, twist, stand and walk for long periods, and converse with clients. The technicians are regularly required to perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. The veterinary technician is regularly required to talk, feel the attributes of objects, grasp, push, and reach with arms or hands.
