The department has a staff of 30 and handles about 300 dogs monthly. The current Lucas County Animal Shelter operates 24/7 and has 21,000 sq. feet under roof. The County is currently in the planning phase of building a new animal shelter to better address the canine needs of the community and to serve as an animal welfare resource.
