Behavior Coordinator- Several Locations
Positions are available in Cape Cod, MA and Salem, MA
This is a full time 40 hour/week position. Day shift Tuesday –Saturday.
MSPCA is currently seeking an experienced animal behavior training professional with excellent teamwork skills to join our Northeast Animal Shelter team. This is a unique opportunity to work on a team of behavior professionals, committed to using science based approach to changing animal behavior.

THE POSITION:
Working under the direction of the Behavior Manager at the Northeast Animal Shelter, the Behavior Coordinator is responsible for:
• Advising adoption center staff on best methods of facilitating appropriate matches between adopters and animals with more challenging behaviors
• Providing safe, high-quality behavioral support from intake to outcome or discharge in our shelters through the creation and implementation of behavior modification plans
• Responding to and managing emergent behavior needs as they arise and communicating revised handling plans and safety measures to ensure staff safety
• Staying up to date on current research and best practices in animal behavior and positive reinforcement training
• Leading training for our animal adoption staff and volunteers in animal behavior
• Providing pre-adoption counseling and hands-on training for prospective adopters, alongside post-adoption support to families who are struggling at home
• Aiding with surrender-prevention support to members of the community to help keep pets with their loving families
• Acting as a resource for clinic staff and provide guidance on any issues relating to animal behavior in their daily tasks that include, but are not limited to, dog walking, low-stress handling for vaccines, administration of medication, euthanasia, etc.
EDUCATION
• High School Diploma required
• CCPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC or other accredited professional dog training certification preferred, or 2 years equivalent experience training dogs under the supervision of a certified dog trainer and in accordance with the MSPCA training philosophy required.
• Fear Free Certification within 6 months or hire or promotion date.
EXPERIENCE
• One year working or volunteering directly with animals, ideally of different species, sizes, and temperaments, under the supervision of a behavior professional.
• One year working in animal welfare or related field.
• One year training/behavior modification experience in accordance with the MSPCA’s philosophies.
