This is a full time 40 hour a week position, with required weekend days.

THE POSITION:

We have an exciting opportunity at our Cape Animal Care and Adoption Center in Centerville, MA for an Animal Welfare Specialist. The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals at risk. We value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of this mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community. Some job responsibilities include:

Working hands-on with several species of animals, evaluating their physical and behavioral health and implementing training and medical plans to increase their adoptability and quality of life in the shelter.
Facilitating adoptions by matchmaking animals with prospective adopters using a conversation-based approach with a goal of identifying the best possible outcome for the person and the animal.
Assisting in the surrender of an animal in an empathetic and compassionate manner that is free from judgment.
Working one on one to offer problem solving advice and connect people with affordable veterinary and behavior resources that will help people retain and build upon the relationship they have with their animal.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for applicants with at least one year of previous work or volunteer experience with animals and experience in a customer service/client care position.  Applicants should also demonstrate excellent judgment and interpersonal skills and are eager to work to support the human-animal bond.  Applicants should have a valid driver's license.
