Job Description

Winnebago County Animal Services is seeking a veterinarian with shelter medicine and spay/neuter experience to join our team as Chief Veterinarian. There are no nights or weekends. Our DVM works with our kennel team to provide high-quality medical care to shelter animals, including dogs, cats and other domestic animals. Our DVM provides spay/neuter, and necessary surgical treatment of various medical conditions, herd health oversight, and healthcare maintenance on shelter pets. Our DVM provides humane medical treatment of all animals seen in the shelter and will play a role in the maintenance of shelter protocols. The DVM splits time evenly between surgical and wellness/medical with surgery in the morning and other duties in the afternoon. Knowledge of and training in shelter medicine preferred. This position plays a vital role in saving lives daily!

Thanks to the efforts of many, including our veterinary team, WCAS euthanasia is low and reserved only for cases of public safety or where injury or illness make euthanasia the humane option.
