Overview

The Director, Development Operations is a key partner for the Chief of Development by optimizing development operations which enables HSSV to build and maintain donor relationships that result in increased philanthropy, affinity, and loyalty. This individual will oversee day-to-day operations for the Development team, including database management, reporting and analytics, portfolio management, donor research, budgeting, and other systems and practices. The successful individual will be curious, driven, organized, collaborative, and a firm believer in the importance of HSSV’s mission.


Duties and Responsibilities


Project Management

Drive projects across the Development team that support strategic and operational initiatives including collaboration with the Chief Development Officer and President.
Leverage software platforms to manage project details, timelines, collaboration opportunities, budgets, and other related information.
Manage projects that encompassthe donor life cycle from an individual to prospective donor to first-time donor and hopefully to an upgraded, renewing, or major donor.
Provide resource solutions and drive best practice use within the team.
Ensure projects are delivered on time and spearhead communications to ensure accountability.


Reporting and Analytics

Partner with Finance on maximizing the use of HSSV revenue and fundraising systems for gift tracking purposes including allocations, acknowledgements, and reconciliation.
Produce metric reports and recommendations on how to leverage data to assess Development progress and opportunities.
Leverage systems and the team for production of donor recognition material as well as the invitation and mailing lists.
Create and maintain Development system guidelines including training staff on effective use.
Develop, maintain, and improve data transfer systems between fundraising and email platforms; coordinate data sharing with other departments as needed.


Donor Research and Portfolio Management

Drive analytics efforts at HSSV, including identifying prospects and target ask amounts and purposes and facilitating regular prospect review meetings.
Conduct donor research which includes profiles for high-net worth and target major donors including background information for gift requests and solicitations, prepare donor look books for donor events, and track and update research in Salesforce.

Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Senior Director, Philanthropy to help with portfolio management for gift officers including driving moves management as well as utilize research and wealth analytics to reprioritize portfolios on a quarterly basis for review.

Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the stewardship program and make recommendations for enhancements where appropriate.

Collaborate with the Development team to maintain and drive data integrity in Salesforce within the fundraising pipeline for interactions, opportunities, plans, and outcomes to produce a comprehensive understanding of giving opportunities.
Provide support for the Chief Development Officer and President on preparations for donor meetings which include proposals, reports, and bespoke stewardship activities.


Operations

Build resources and tools that enable HSSV to be a storytelling machine that inspires donors and raises awareness of the organization‘s mission.

Manage team budget reconciliation, expenses, and Development event calendar including internal meeting agendas.

Support Donor Relations Committee preparations, communications, and related initiatives.
Partner with the Chief Development Officer for Board support in fundraising including stewardship activities.

Assist in the preparation of the Annual Report, annual statistical reports, and major donor lists.

Create and manage presentation templates for Development purposes collaborating with Marketing to ensure HSSV brand is accurately represented.

Manage relationships with vendors, such as providers of database, online giving, and prospect research services.

Collaborate closely with other cross functional areas related to achievement of special projects.

Other job duties may be assigned as needed.


Requirements


Development experience in a non-profit environment and fundraising strategies highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of fundraising/sales operations principles; proven ability with analytics and successful project and data management.

Comprehensive understanding of gift processing, stewardship, donor relations, prospect management, and data maintenance.
Ability to work independently; a self-starter with a high level of integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion; must be professional in all aspects.

Excellent time management and organization skills with an attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving, research, collaboration, and analytical skills.
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills (with internal and external audiences), including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable technical knowledge: Asana or equivalent project management software, Salesforce constituent management database, Springboard giving platform, Pardot digital communication platform or equivalent.


Work Days and Hours

Primarily day schedule Monday - Friday and is required to participate in some Development events throughout the year that are on evenings and/or weekends.
