Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Animal Care
- Conduct feline behavior assessments and communicate with President on all concerns.
- Collaborate within the shelter on home/movement to best suit the feline’s need.
- Perform Restraints / Nail Trims / Vaccines / Flea Treatment / Dewormer / Administer Medications/ Fluids / Cultures and more under the direction of Veterinarian for both in-house shelter and foster felines, as needed.
- Maintain shelter and foster feline medication and treatment records.
- Assist Veterinarian on all exams including Microchip placement, combo tests, blood draws, ear cleaning, draw vaccines, etc.
- Maintain infectious disease control protocol appropriate for Ringworm and Upper Respiratory illnesses, in conjunction with daily cleaning techniques and
- Identify and communicate a shelter Path to prevent disease/illness spread.
- Arrange and manage necessary medical appointments outside of normal spay and neuter.
- Supervise Animal Care Employee.
- Periodically drive to vet offices, foster homes, surrenders, etc.
- Assist with monthly spay mobile and weekly FACT spay/neuter clinics, as needed.
Shelter Administration
- Perform feline shelter intakes under the explicit direction of and after communication with the shelter President.
- Respond to calls and emails pertaining to feline surrenders.
- Keep accurate feline shelter documentation, including all medical and surrender forms.
- Complete cage set ups including feline background, updates on post-surgery, etc.
- Maintain shelter medical and office inventories and order supplies as needed.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, complying with state and federal guidelines.
- Assist Animal Care Employee with volunteer/socializer supervision and communication when in the shelter; fill in when needed to clean a room or cage.
- Stay informed about all shelter requirements under the Department of Agriculture Rules and Regulations and inform the Shelter President when standard operating procedures need to be revised.
- Conduct adoption appointments as applicable.
- Complete periodic reporting requirements.
- Help create, document, and implement shelter standard operating policies and procedures that align with organization goals.
Shelter Maintenance
- Recommend equipment purchases and repairs to improver shelter operational efficiency to the Shelter President.
- Oversee shelter routine maintenance including coordinating repairs with established vendors (alarms, phone/internet system, heating and air conditioning system, generator, appliances, equipment).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods of time.
- Ability to carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in and around bleach, disinfectant, and other types of cleaners.
Skills/Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of recent animal care experience in an animal shelter, veterinary office, or similar animal care environment.
- Feline trapping knowledge and experience assessing behaviors.
- A passion and commitment to treating animals and humans with kindness and respect.
- Comfortable and proficient with smart phone and typical office computer technology.
- Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and carry out a wide variety of tasks.
- Humanely handle animals under various circumstances.
- A sense of urgency in completing tasks to ensure feline, employee and volunteer positive outcomes.
- Schedule flexibility to meet the shelter needs.
