Job Description

The Bucks County SPCA in Southeastern Pennsylvania is ready to grow our exceptional medical team. We are looking for a full-time Shelter Veterinarian to help us expand our services on behalf of shelter animals and owned pets. The successful candidate will join a department led by our Director of Shelter Medicine and supported by a dedicated team of technicians and assistants.

The Shelter Veterinarian will be responsible for surgical procedures (primarily spay/neuter of cats, dogs and rabbits) and physical examinations and diagnostic workups on healthy and sick shelter animals. This position also supports delivery of low-cost spay/neuter for owned cats. While experience in shelter medicine is preferred, training is available for an eager veterinarian with an interest in this emerging, multidisciplinary field.

BCSPCA is a private nonprofit humane organization that has served beautiful historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, since 1912. We operate two managed intake facilities with embedded non-public clinics and a robust foster program that collectively serve up to 3,500 animals annually (primarily cats, dogs, small animals and, from cruelty cases, farm animals). We have a “No Time Limit” policy for adoptable animals, an approximately 90% live release rate, and a solid team of 40 staff members and 250+ volunteers, including approximately 160 trained foster homes. We offer a wide array of services to animals and the people who care about them including adoption, lost and found, cruelty investigation, emergency injured stray rescue, and compassionate end-of-life services. We assist community members needing help keeping their pets during times of emergency or financial stress and have a growing surrender prevention/owned pet assistance program. The Staff Veterinarian position is an exempt, full-time, 40-hour per-week position, which may include 1 weekend day.

Signing bonus offered.

Requirements:
Valid VMD/DVM license in the State of Pennsylvania.
Must hold or be eligible to hold accreditation from the USDA.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Experience and/or interest in shelter medicine preferred.
Experience in HQHV spay/neuter surgery preferred.
